I just published my book titled “SCREAM: Chilling Adventures in the Science of Fear.”

Writing & Research

Most of my professional writing has been a means of communicating research findings. However, my true passion lies in integrating research with personal stories and narrative — really engaging the sociological imagination. The central theme throughout all my writing and research has been to understand how we define and construct ideas of normalcy. I am also the co-investigator on a first-of-its-kind study looking at emotions as they are experienced in the real world by collecting psychophysiology data measuring how the brain and body respond in everyday and extraordinary situations (for example haunted attractions and paranormal investigations). Check out my interview at Hidden Brain, and Science Friday.

My Book

My book with PublicAffairs Books, titled SCREAM: Chilling Adventures in the Science of Fear, is scheduled for release in 2015. This book focuses on how and why we enjoy thrilling and scary situations. I’m in the process of going on a series of adventures meant to challenge my own ideas and feelings about fear.
